Two Superior, Wisconsin men arrested in drug bust

Two Superior, Wisconsin men were arrested Thursday in connection with the seizure of about 980 grams of cocaine (commonly described as a “kilo”) with an estimated street value of $100,000, according to the Superior police.

The arrests were the result of a cooperative, multi-agency investigation involving the Superior, Wisconsin Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the Cloquet Police Department, according to a report from the Superior, Wisconsin police.

The two men arrested were identified as Jesse A. Starstead, 18, and Duke Archambeau, 19, both of Superior. They are being held in the Douglas County, Wisconsin Jail pending charges by the Douglas County District Attorney’s office of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

A third person, Kraig Johnstone, age 18, also of Superior, is also allegedly involved. He was arrested and charged with felony delivery of marijuana. He is also lodged in the Douglas County Jail pending formal charging by the district attorney’s office.

Police Chief Floyd Peters praised the work of the investigators involved in this successful multi-agency drug investigation.

“I am very pleased with the seizure of this large quantity of cocaine in our community,” he said. “Normally seizures involving this quantity of illegal street drugs are found in larger metropolitan areas. Initial reports in this incident indicate the source of this cocaine may be the Twin Cities area. I am concerned with the drug trafficking issues we are facing in northwest Wisconsin and northeast Minnesota, and the subsequent violence and other crimes that are often associated with them. The Superior Police Department and other partner law enforcement agencies in our area will continue to be diligent and aggressive in the investigation and arrest of those who are involved in the illegal use, sale and trafficking of drugs in our communities.”
