Cocaine found in kid's room, Wisconsin police sayOfficers who found almost $6,000 worth of crack cocaine Monday at a Wisconsin Rapids home used for child care said they discovered the drugs inside an infant's bedroom.
Jessica M. Bach, 27, and Roemon L. Hamer, 24, both of 420 4th St. S., made initial court appearances Tuesday on charges of being a party to the crimes of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and maintaining a drug trafficking place in connection with the search. Hamer faces an additional charge of possession of marijuana. His charges also carry repeat-offender enhancers, meaning he could face a longer sentence if convicted.
Wood County Circuit Court Judge Edward Zappen Jr. set a $10,000 cash bond for Bach and a $50,000 cash bond for Hamer.
Although Bach was not a state-licensed day care provider, she was certified for child care by the Wood County Social Services Department. She was accepting money to care for two children at the home, said Investigator Mike Webster of the Wood County Sheriff's Department. She also has two children of her own, including one infant.
Officers found 31.8 grams of crack cocaine in a safe in the infant's room, according to the criminal complaint. The officers also found another 25.7 grams of crack cocaine, divided into eight separate plastic bags, in a basket on a dresser containing child's items.
Webster said toys and items in the infant's room indicated the children were playing in the room. If a child had found the cocaine in the room, it could have been fatal. Crack cocaine looks like rock candy, Webster said.
If convicted of the charges, Bach faces a maximum of 481Ú2 years in prison. Hamer faces a maximum of 66 years in prison if convicted on all three charges.
