Wisconsin police nab 2 area men, cocaine in drug bust
Two undercover Wisconsin drug buys involving large quantities of cocaine have resulted in the arrest of two men. The transactions took place in the parking lot of the Fond du Lac Menard’s home improvement store.
Lazaro Sanchez-Rosas, 29, of 136 Amory St., Fond du Lac, was charged Friday with manufacture and delivery of cocaine and possession with intent to deliver cocaine. He remains jailed on a probation division “hold” and $100,000 cash bond on the felony court case.
Bond was established by Judge Steven Weinke, who will hold Sanchez-Rosas’ preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 2.
Weinke will determine then whether enough evidence exists to send the case to trial.
A public defender working for Sanchez-Rosas, who asked for a much lesser bail, said Sanchez-Rosas’ wife works in Ripon and he is needed at home, where he watches children ages 4, 3 and 2 months.
According to the criminal complaint, Sanchez-Rosas allegedly sold cocaine this month to an undercover Wisconsin agent at a Town of Ripon location and two times at the Fond du Lac Menard’s store parking lot. The parking lot buys were for 29.3 and 118.4 grams — a total of 5.17 ounces.
Cocaine, a digital scale and plastic bags also were found Dec. 17 at his home.
Sanchez-Rosas was arrested as part of an investigation that also saw the arrest of Juan E. Hernandez of Ripon.
The arrests resulted from a three-month joint investigation between the Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) Unit and the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Both men are scheduled to be back in court Jan. 2.
If convicted on all four charges, Sanchez-Rosas faces up to 115 years in prison and $400,000 in fines.
